Wales is renowned for its musical heritage, and this corner of is no exception. Fishguard International Music Festival in July and August is an exceptional array of concerts in beautiful venues around this immediate area. There is also the Fishguard Folk Festival at the same time as the St Davids Music Festival based around the Cathedral in late May and early June. The August Bank Holiday weekend is lit up by AberJazz ...... the Pembrokeshire Jazz and Blues festival, also based around Fishguard. Around Xmas and New Year there are many musical events and the beautiful candle-lit Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at St Davids Cathedral is a glorious way to celebrate Christmas. The Cathedral choir can be heard every Sunday (except August), in the wonderful resonance of the 800-year old nave.

St Davids Day (March 1st) is celebrated enthusiastically all over the county, but particularly in his own hometown, with concerts, folk dancing and parades. In summer there are outdoor performances of Shakespeare plays at romantic sites like Cilgerran Castle or the Bishops Palace in St Davids or the gardens of Picton Castle. In more homely vein there are folk nights and jam sessions in local pubs - and if you like real singing, try to be in a good local pub on an evening when Wales has won!

Pembrokeshire has wonderful artists and craftspeople, displaying their works in galleries and special exhibitions. Contemporary glass, traditional and original textiles, jewellery, prints, paintings and ceramics are often inspired by the beauty of the local landscape. There is a display of the variety of work, studio locations and a list of special events at the Pembrokeshire Craftmakers website.

Finally, gardens - the county has a wonderful climate for garden-makers. There are informal, personal gardens like Dyffryn Fernant and Moorland Cottage Plants, or grand and formal such as Picton Castle and Colby...... all allow you to wander at will, enjoying the plantings and the setting in rolling Welsh countryside. No doubt you will be tempted by the wonderful plants offered by skilled and knowledgeable growers! The Welsh National Botanic Garden and Aberglasney Garden are within a day's drive, beyond Carmarthen, ..... not to be missed!
